How To Do Vaginal Steaming At Home

yoni steam fertility bath

Vaginal or yoni steaming (yoni is the Sanskrit word for vulva, vagina and uterus) is an ancient remedy for gynecological problems. It includes sitting or squatting over steaming pot of water infused with therapeutic herbs.

Benefits Of Vaginal Steam Bath:

Vaginal steam baths are done in case of infertility, irregular or painful menstrual cycle, fibroid, ovarian cysts, uterine prolapse, yeast infections, endometriosis, hemorrhoids, constipation or pain during intercourse. It is also used to cleanse and revitalize the uterus and to maintain healthy fertility.

Steam bath opens up the pores of the tissues, brings heat to the womb and increases circulation and energy flow. It also increases cervical fluids and tonifies uterine lining. Without enough circulation in uterus, old stagnant blood cells are accumulated to reproductive organs which may lead to many gynecological disorders.

Without proper circulation in uterus, it is harder for implantation and pregnancy to occur. If you are trying to get pregnant do the vaginal steaming every day for 4 days before your ovulation starts. In case of PMS, irregular, too short or too long periods, steam 3 times in the week prior to your cycle.

This simple treatment is available in many spa centers for price between 50 and 80 dollars, but it can be done at home as well.

How To Do Vaginal Steaming

- Boil 1,5 – 2 liters of water with a 1 cup of fresh or ½ cup of dried herbs. You can use basil, thyme, rose petals, marigold, lavender, rosemary, st. John's wort, Shatavari, Ashwagandha, raspberry leaf, mugwort, Neem, Triphala, fennel, sage or chamomile. Do not use essential oils in steam because they may burn your genitals.

- Leave it to cool for 5 – 10 min.

- Pour the water with herbs into a large bowl or bucket. Make sure the steam is not too hot. It should be pleasant.

- Spread out the towel on the floor and place the bowl over a towel.

- Be naked from the waist down.

- Squat over a steaming bowl of herbs. You can also put the large bowl of water inside the toilet and sit over the toilet or buy vaginal steam chairs online.

- Cover your lower body with extra large towel or blanket that reaches to the floor to ensure the steam is contained. Wear socks during steaming because meridians that start in your feet connect to the uterus.

- Steam for 20-50 minutes, then rest for half an hour and take a warm bath.

It is quite common to experience worse symptoms after vaginal steam bath especially if you have been dealing with menstrual imbalances for many years. You may also release old blood that has been stagnant in your womb. In that case the blood will be darker in color.

Contraindications:

Avoid this treatment during pregnancy, menstruation, infections, inflammations, IUD, open wounds or sores on genital area.
Wait 1 month after miscarriage and 2 months after delivery prior to steaming.
